Teaching Children to Become Writers

This training kit provides early childhood professionals with important information about how to help children learn to write their names appropriately, through a sequential and developmental description of what they know about the written language, as evidenced in their actual attempts as they learn to write.

Who's the Target Audience?
The target audiences for this training kit are beginning, intermediate, and advanced Learners who are working with young children (2 through 5 years).

Kit Timeline:
Preparation time for this kit is estimated at 1.5 hours. Implementation and actual training time is 3.0 hours, which includes 1.5 hours of Face-to-Face training and 1.5 hours of Independent Study and an Applied Activity Project.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this training, Learners will be able to:

• identify where a child currently is in his writing development.
• document and visually demonstrate progress in a child’s writing.
• respond appropriately to support and encourage the development of written language in children.
• help parents see and celebrate the early steps in writing development.
• enhance classroom planning and teaching through knowledge of name writing.
