I thought it would be interesting and revealing to ask people who are living and working with young children if they could remember a favorite toy they had when they were under six years of age and how the toy influenced their play. I was amazed at the instantaneous responses.Before reading some of the responses, take a minute and jot down what you remember as your favorite toy and how you played with it.

When I was a little girl, my mother would give my brother and me each five cents and a penny to buy a piece of penny candy. On our way home from the store, we would pass a clothing shop, and in the window there was a beautiful doll. I longed for her, but my mother said that we couldn't afford to buy her.
