Updated Exchange Resource on Friendship
February 4, 2004

"If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first create the universe." - Carl Sagan

UPDATED EXCHANGE RESOURCE ON FRIENDSHIP

Friendships between children and between children and adults, friendships among adults--these relationships form the critical foundation for a rich learning environment.  By befriending the children they care for, early childhood educators teach children how to be friends...to to be deeply involved in the welfare of others. By sharing their commitment to friendship with parents, they help parents see the value of providing a loving environment in the home.

Today Exchange is announcing the availability of its substantially updated book, Connecting: Friendship in the Lives of Young Children and Their Teachers.  Connecting looks at friendship as it develops in the context of early childhood programs, where people come together in unlimited combinations of age, experience, sex, culture, and background. This thought-provoking collection of articles offers practical tools and ideas for facilitating relationships among children and adults with contributions by experts including Ashely Montagu, Judith Leipzig, Kay Albrecht, Lella Gandini, Margie Carter, Diane Levin, and a host of others.
