PHIPPS WINS MARY PETSCHE AWARD

Pat Phipps, Executive Director of California Association for the Education of Young Children, will today receive the first Mary Petsche Advocate Award at the Child Development Policy Institute "Celebrating Leaders" reception at the CAEYC Annual Conference in San Diego.

Mary Petsche was one of the founding members of CDPI and  Executive Director for 4C's of San Mateo County from 1978-2001.  Based on her contributions to child care and development, Mary was inducted into the San Mateo County Women's Hall of Fame.  Mary's Room, a parent resource center named in her honor, was opened in May 2003 at the Child Care Coordinating Council Center.  Mary was very active with advocacy and public policy until her passing on December 6, 2003 in Falls City, Nebraska.  Mary will always be remembered by everyone for her outstanding dedication and commitment in promoting early care and education services to California's children and families!  Her invaluable work lives on!
